9.4 Scope

function

The scope function records a snapshot of the data sent by the connected device. On start-up,
PScope orders the device to send information about selected signals, e.g. position, speed and
tracking distance, at a specific scan rate. The scan rate depends on the time base selected
within the scope function, whereby the fastest possible scan rate on controllers is 1 ms. On
servo amplifiers it is possible to have a scan rate of 250 µs.

Example:

If the time base is set at 10 ms per division, 100 points will be sent at a scan
rate of 1 ms. This corresponds to a time period of 100 ms.

Due to the transmission time via the serial interface, the scope function cannot be operated in
real-time. The measurement on the connected device occurs instantaneously; the data is
written to a buffer and is then downloaded to PScope. Here the data points are recorded on the
screen. The result is a curve, which directly reflects the movement of the controller or the
course of a signal.

In order to use the scope function, the terminal must be active and connected to a PMC
device, otherwise it will not be possible to transfer data to PScope.

If there is no active connection between the hardware and PScope, the following message is
shown when starting the scope function:
