Perform steps R5 through R8 only if you are
building your wing with RETRACTABLE landing
gear. An “R” placed in front of each step notes
that it is for RETRACTABLE landing gear ONLY.

R5. Use thick CA or epoxy to glue two die-cut

1/16" plywood

rib doublers W-4AR to both sides of

the die-cut 3/32" balsa

wing rib W-4. Glue two die-

cut 1/16" plywood

rib doublers W-5AR to both sides

of the die-cut 3/32" balsa

wing rib W-5.

R6. Use a hobby knife to remove the shaded

portion of balsa shown in the photo.

R7. Repeat the previous two steps to make

another set of ribs for the other wing panel.

R8. Use a 5/32" brass tube sharpened on the end

to cut two holes for the air lines in each set of ribs

W-1, W-2 and W-3. The holes should be located near
the top of the ribs and the aft edge of the holes
should be located 1/16" forward of the top and
bottom main spars as shown in the sketch. The holes
in both W-1’s should align with each other.

9. Glue one of the die-cut 1/8" plywood

doublers W-1A to one side of the die-cut 3/32" balsa

W-1. Glue the other W-1A to the other side of the

other W-1. Be certain you are making a

right and a

left. If you’re installing retracts, drill the holes through
the doublers for the air lines.

10. Use a hobby knife and a straightedge to

lightly

score both W-1’s as shown. When it’s time to join the
wing panels, this section of balsa will be removed to
accommodate the wing joiners.

Perform this step only if you are building flaps.

11. Use a straightedge to cut partway through ribs

W-3 through W-6 (and W-6B) from the aft notch to
the tip of the rib. This section of rib will be removed
when it’s time to build the flaps.
