Under the Configuration section, use the Speed/Duplex field to automatically
or manually configure the LAN interface’s port speed and mode.

Note: You can also use the Interface selection on the Nortel VPN Router
Serial Port menu to set auto negotiation.

Select Auto-Negotiate to specify that the Nortel VPN Router automatically
set the port speed and mode to match the best service provided by the

connected station, up to 100 Mbps in full-duplex mode. Auto-Negotiate is the
default selection, and complies with the IEEE 802.3u auto negotiating

standard.

Select one of the following selections to manually set the LAN interface’s port
speed and mode to match the speed and mode used by the connected station.

100Mbs/Full duplex

100Mbs/Half duplex

10Mbs/Full duplex

10Mbs/Half duplex

Note: You might not be able to connect to the remote system if the
system is not using auto negotiation or if it uses an incompatible form of

auto negotiation. If this occurs, manually set your Nortel VPN Router

speed and mode settings to match those used by the remote system.

You can provide an optional Description for the LAN interface. The
description appears on the LAN Interfaces window.

3

Enter the MTU value. The MTU sets the maximum size of a data packet
transmitted from the interface. It does not affect the size of a packet accepted
by the interface. Packets larger than the MTU are either fragmented or

dropped. The DF (don’t fragment) bit in the IP header determines what action

is taken.
