21 Operating Instructions
Field Operation
1. Hitch implement to a suitable tractor. Refer to
Hitching Tractor to Implement, “Assembly and
Setup,” page 17.
2. Hydraulically adjust coulters to desired depth.
Note reference measurement on tongue-cylinder
gauge to help you achieve the same coulter depth
with each field pass. Refer to Coulter Depth, “Ad-
justments,” page 25, for further adjustment in-
structions.
3. Set seeding rate. Refer to Setting the Seeding
Rate, “Adjustments,” page 30.
4. Load box with clean seed.
5. Pull forward, lower coulters to desired depth, low-
er drill, and begin seeding.
6. Always lift drill out of ground when turning at row
ends and for other short turns. Seeding will stop
automatically as drill is raised.
Opener Operation
Never back up with openers in ground. If you do,
check all openers to be sure none are clogged or
damaged.

24. For more information on troubleshooting opener
problems, see “Troubleshooting,” page 66.
Pivot Lock
Refer to Figure 9
The pivot locks are behind the stabilizer cylinders on
each side of implement.
During normal field operation, operate hitch with pivot
locks flipped into the forward position so hitch can
pivot and drill openers can properly track coulters.
Refer to Figure 10
When drilling on steep slopes or transporting, flip pivot
locks into the rear position.
Marker Operation
Refer to Figure 11
Optional markers are usually powered off of their own
circuit.
NOTE: Optional selector valves are available for use
with tongue cylinder and optional markers.
After setting coulter depth with tongue cylinder, turn
selector valve to the left to operate markers.
