Rules for installing DIMMs
Keep the following items in mind when adding or replacing DIMMs.
q DIMM sockets do not need to be installed in pairs.
q DIMM sockets can be filled in any order.
q The DRAM timing register is programmed to use the timings of the slowest DRAMs
installed.
Installing DIMMs
The following procedure assumes you have opened the case and are observing ESD precautions.
(Refer to "
Opening the case
") To install DIMMs:
1.
Holding the DIMM only by the edges, remove it from its antistatic package.
2.
Make sure the clips at either end of the socket are pushed away from the socket.
3.
Position the DIMM above the socket at about a 90-degree angle relative to the motherboard.
Make sure the two small notches in the bottom edge of the DIMM align with the keys in the
DIMM socket.
4.
Insert the bottom edge of the DIMM into the DIMM socket and make sure it is seated
correctly.
5.
Gently push the top edge of the DIMM until the retaining clips at each end of the socket snap
into place.
