Probable Cause

Remedy

Pump loses hydraulic
oil.

1. Diaphragm ruptured.

Replace.

2. Leaky seal.

Replace.

3. Cover gasket leaks.

Replace or retighten.

4. Pump head gasket leaks.

Replace - tighten pump head bolts.
Apply sealing compound.

5. Pump head overfilled.

Remove excess oil.

Air bleeds continuously
from PTP (automatic
bleed valve)

1. Hydraulic oil level low.

Refill to correct level.

2. Hydraulic bypass valve operating

each stroke.

Refer to Hydraulic Bypass Valve.

3. Suction pressure too low.

Increase pressure.

4. Breakdown of oil – temperature

high.

Change oil type, consult factory.

Noisy gearing, knocking

1. Discharge pressure too high.

Reduce pressure.

2. Water hammer.

Install PULSAtrol.

3. Hydraulic bypass valve set too

high.

Readjust (refer to Hydraulic Bypass Valve).

4. Stroke length at partial setting.

Nondestructive knocking is characteristic of lost
motion pumps.

Piping noisy

1. Pipe size too small.

Increase size of piping - install PULSAtrol.

2. Pipe runs too long.

Install PULSAtrol in line.

3. Surge chambers flooded.

Replace with air or inert gas. If a PULSAtrol is
installed, replace diaphragm and recharge.

4. No surge chambers used.

Install PULSAtrol.

Motor overheats

1. Pump overloaded.

Check operating conditions against pump design.

2. High or low voltage.

Check power source.

3. Loose wire.

Trace and correct.

PULSAlarm Leak
Detection – False Alarm

1. Vacuum/pressure leak.

Find and correct.

2. Switch adjustment off.

Readjust switch.

3. Switch malfunction.

Replace switch.

4. Insufficient vacuum.

Evacuate to specification.

PULSAlarm Leak
Detection – Failure to
Alarm

1. Switch adjustment off.

Readjust switch.

2. Switch malfunction.

Replace switch.

3. Power off.

Restore power.

4. Alarm wiring discontinuity.

Find and correct.
