Precautions on recovery storage groups and recovery databases
If you are using Exchange Server 2003 or Exchange Server 2007 as the database management
system, do not specify a recovery storage group when specifying a storage group. If you are using
Exchange Server 2010 or Exchange Server 2013 as the database management system, do not specify
a recovery database when specifying a database.
Precautions when configuring volumes
When reverting a database (executing the
drmexgrestore
command without the
-recovery
option specified) during online backup, set up the volume as follows:
•
Set the same RAID Manager group name for volumes that contain data files (
*.edb
and
*.stm
)
transaction log files (
*.log
) and checkpoint files (
*.chk
).
Precautions on database verification
Use the
drmexgverify
or
EX_DRM_EXG_VERIFY
command to verify the integrity of the data that
was backed up by using the
drmexgbackup
or
EX_DRM_EXG_BACKUP
command, online, or by
using VSS. During online backup, the
drmexgverify
and
EX_DRM_EXG_VERIFY
commands verify
the integrity of the Exchange database (
*.edb
files) only, and not that of the Exchange streaming
database (
*.stm
files). This means that even if the
drmexgverify
command successfully terminates
the verification, the Exchange streaming database might have been corrupted. In this case, the backup
data might not be able to be restored.
Backing up and restoring data between volumes without using
VSS
This section describes how to back up and restore data between the primary and secondary volumes
without using VSS.
System configuration
In a configuration that uses only one server, you use commands to back up and restore data between
the primary volume and secondary volume. Application Agent must be installed on the database
server in order to execute commands.
The following figure shows a system configuration for backing up and restoring data between volumes.
This system configuration can be used when Exchange Server 2003 is used.
