SNMP configuration

The Simple Network Management Protocol configuration includes properties and trap parameters plus

SNMP v3 manager and user parameters.

SNMP properties and trap configuration parameters

Use the SNMP Properties dialog box (

Figure 30

) to change SNMP properties and trap configuration

parameters.

The SNMP configuration defines how authentication traps are managed. The following characters may

not be used in the user-defined fields: pound sign (#), semi-colon (;), and comma (,).

The SNMP trap configuration defines how traps are set. Choose from the tabs Trap1–Trap 5 to

configure each trap.

NOTE:

In a switch running 7.6 and newer firmware, the Trap Community string (

Figure 30

) is now per

trap. With firmware older than 7.6, there is just one trap community string for all SNMP configuration.

To set the SNMP properties:

1.

Select a switch in the topology display to open the faceplate/backplate display.

2.

Open the Switch menu, select SNMP, and then select SNMP Properties.

3.

Select the desired SNMP parameters, referring to the descriptions of the SNMP parameters in

Table 13

.

4.

When you have finished setting the parameters, click OK to put the new values into effect.

NOTE:

Since Read Community, Trap Community, and Write Community settings are like passwords and

are write-only fields, the current settings are displayed as asterisks.
