Chapter 2
NOTE: Since your modem shares the telephone line with your AiO printer, you will not be able to use both
your computer modem and your All-in-One simultaneously. For example, while you are sending
and receiving faxes, you will not be able to e-mail or access the Internet.
1
Disconnect the phone cord from the wall jack that connects your modem to the telephone wall jack and
plug it into the port labelled 2-EXT on your All-in-One.
2
Make sure your answering machine is connected to the Out port on the back of your modem. This
provides a direct connection between the All-in-One and your answering machine, even though the
modem is connected first.
CAUTION:
If you do not connect your answering machine in this way, fax tones from a sending
fax machine could be recorded on your answering machine and you may not be able to
receive faxes.
3
Connect the phone cord supplied with your AiO printer to your telephone wall jack and the port labelled
1-LINE.
4
If your modem software is set to automatically receive faxes to your computer, set it to Off.
5
Set Answering Machine Mode on your All-in-One to On.
The AiO printer will not automatically answer calls. Instead, the answering machine will answer the call
and the AiO printer will monitor the line. If the AiO printer detects fax tones, the AiO printer will receive
the fax. If the call is a voice call, the AiO printer ignores the call.
