Four-Jaw Direct

Mount Independent

Chuck

Four-jaw chucks feature hardened steel jaws that
are adjusted independently. Each jaw can be
removed from the chuck body and be reversed.
Independent jaw adjustment and reversal allows
for a wide range of work holding versatility.

The four-jaw direct mount independent chuck fea-
tured in these instructions mounts the same way
as the three-jaw chuck. Refer to the three-jaw
chuck instructions beginning on

Page 20.

To load a workpiece, do these steps:

1. Using the chuck key, open each jaw so the

workpiece will lay flat against the chuck
face.

2. Support the workpiece.

3. Lock the tailstock and then turn the tailstock

quill so the dead center makes contact with
the centerpoint of your workpiece.

4. Turn each jaw until it just makes contact with

the workpiece.

5. Tighten each jaw in small increments. After

you have adjusted the first jaw, contin-
ue tightening in opposing sequence (see

Figures 25 & 26). Check frequently to make
sure you have not wandered off your center
point due to applying too much pressure to a
single jaw.

PINCH HAZARD! Protect

your hands and precision

ground bedways with

plywood when removing

lathe chuck! The heavy

weight of a falling chuck

can cause serious injury.
