Adding a second internal hard drive
Your MeeBox supports up to two internal SATA 3.5-inch hard drives. If your MeeBox shipped
with one drive, you can add a second drive to either increase storage capacity or
enhance data security (by making the second drive ―mirror‖ the first).
You have three choices in how to use a second internal hard drive.
As a second volume. If you take no further action after installing a second hard
drive, it will be treated as a second volume, logically independent of the original
volume. The new volume will be accessible as the public shared folder ide4. (On
Windows, the network path will be \\meebox\ide4. On Macintosh, it will be
smb://meebox/ide4.)
In a RAID 0 array. You can combine the second drive with the first in a RAID 0 array
to create a single volume that is the size of both drives combined. The single
volume will continue to be accessible in the same way as before you created the
array. Note: All existing data on BOTH drives will be DELETED if you create a RAID 0
array.
In a RAID 1 array. You can use the second drive as a ―mirror‖ of the first using RAID 1.
In this arrangement, the system keeps the contents of the two drives always the
same. If one drive fails, your data is still available on the other drive. Choosing RAID
1 creates a single volume that is the size of the smaller of the two drives. Note: All
existing data on BOTH drives will be DELETED if you create a RAID 0 array.
Installing the second hard drive
You will need a Phillips-head screwdriver and the four drive screws included in your
MeeBox retail package.
1. Ensure that the MeeBox is turned off, and disconnect all cords and cables.
2. Remove the three screws that secure the MeeBox’s top cover from the back plate.
(Two screws are at the extreme ends of the back plate, and one is in the middle.)
3. Slide the top cover back until it stops, then lift the cover straight up. Set the cover aside.
4. Turn the MeeBox over and place it top-down on the work surface.
