To create a list of management stations that are given permissions
to read and modify the settings of the switch go to the Authorized
Managers page located in the SNMP Config. subfolder.
Figure 6-8. Authorized Managers Page
Up to 10 management stations can by assigned in the table. You
set the status for each entry to Enabled or Disabled, depending on
whether you want to have the management station authorization
active or not. You can then set the Privilege for each station, the
options are:
• Read-Only - Allows authorized stations to retrieve MIB objects
• Read-Write - Allows authorized stations to retrieve and modify
MIB objects
The IP address of the Management Station is then entered in the
four available text boxes. The Community field is where the
“community string” is entered. The community string functions
like a password, the Management Station SNMP application and
the Switch SNMP agent use the same community string as a
shared key to verify authorization. If the Management Station is
not properly authenticated, the SNMP packets from the SNMP
agent will be dropped. The default for Read-Only access is public
and the default for Read-Write is private.
