Coax Device Attachment

Dynamic Multiplexing

Dynamic Multiplexing (see the SCON-20L/22L Configuration Manual and the LINCS
Central Control
manual) supports:

• 1199-type multiplexers (or direct device connections).

• Coax Device Adapter (CDA) board ports labeled 0 - 15 (maximum 2 boards).

• Configuration of 1 - 8 devices on each multiplexer.

• Assignment of logical port addresses twice so that users can access the same

configuration of features from two stations (not at the same time).

If you are using Dynamic Multiplexing, you must enable the feature during configuration
and assign port addresses on the Coax Port and Mux Assignments panel described in the
SCON-20L/22L Configuration Manual and the LINCS Central Control manual.

If you are not using Dynamic Multiplexing, refer to the following for information about
coax port addresses.

Device Attachment

Coax devices are attached to the Coax Device Adapter (CDA) board(s) on the back of
the Console Concentrator.

If Dynamic Multiplexing is to be used in your network, you can change logical port
assignments by completing the Dynamic Multiplexing Assignments panel described
in the SCON-20L/22L Configuration Manual.

The SCON-22L may have one or two 18-port CDAs. The SCON-20L supports only
one. To support more than 16 coax devices on the SCON-22L you must change the
number of coax devices shown on the ‘1174-22L Product Definition’ panel in
configuration, to 32 (16 is the default setting).

18-Port CDA Board Connections

Figure 2-5 shows an SCON-22L with two 18-port CDA boards. They are referred to as
the left and right CDAs. The SCON-20L will only have a CDA plugged into the right
location.
