Compressor - limiter

Fig.74 Input compressor: parameters and visualization.

This dynamic processor on the input signal can work as a compressor (“Compressor Mode”) or as a limiter

(“Limiter Mode”). When the compressor is working the reduction meter display the amount of reduction.

Threshold

Threshold level for the compressor/limiter. Below the threshold no compression/limiting occurs, above the

threshold the processors starts to compress or to limit the signal. The threshold level is referred to the

maximum dynamic for the input signal, so Thresh=0dB means “threshold disabled (over the maximum signal

level)”.

Attack Time

Attack time for the compressor: determines how quickly the compressor reacts to signals above the

threshold.

Release Time

Release time for the compressor: determines how quickly the compressor restores its normal gain after the

signal goes below the threshold.

Limit

Enables or disables the “Limiter Mode”: enabling this mode the compressor acts as a limiter (with a ratio ∞:1).

Ratio

Selects the amount of compression for the signal. Compression ratio parameter determines the input/output

ratio for signals above the threshold: for example, a 5:1 ratio means that a signal exceeding the threshold by

5 dB will compressed to 1 dB above the threshold. This parameter is not available in “Limiter Mode”.

Reduction Meter

LED meter to check when and how much the compressor/limiter is reducing the audio signal that it is

processing. It works only when compressor is enabled.
