to the LAN interface. The Default Gateway is the address of a local router to which all non-local
subnet traffic will be directed.
4.2.3.1.3 FAST
The CMR-8500 supports the Comtech EF Data FAST (Fully Accessible System Topology) code, which is
the capability to upgrade your CMR-8500 by entering a number unique to your CMR-8500 unit by its
serial number.
Comtech EF Data’s FAST system permits the purchase and installation of options through special
authorization codes, entered remotely or through the front panel.
FAST allows immediate implementation of different options through the user interface keypad. All FAST
options are available through the basic platform unit. To add additional features to the CMR-8500, please
contact your Comtech EF Data sales representative.
The menu options for FAST are:
• Serial Number - Displays the serial number of the unit. FAST code options are unique for each unit
by the unit’s serial number. When requesting an update, or entering a FAST code on a unit, the FAST
code upgrade will only be applicable to the serial number that it was generated for.
• Option - Use the Up/Down arrow keys to view the currently installed options on the CMR-8500.

Upgrade - The CMR-8500 can be configured with multiple interface and performance options, and
with the FAST code capability, a unit can be upgraded after it has been deployed and in use without
being returned to the factory or replaced.
