9.1 About the Universal E&M/PTT Interface Card
The Universal E&M/PTT interface card can be installed in the SDM-9220 and SDM-9230
to support a dedicated Push to Talk (PTT) application. Refer to
“About Push To Talk
(PTT)” on page 9-5 . To install the Universal E&M/PTT interface card in a slot on the
SDM-9220 or SDM-9230 chassis, refer to “Installing an Interface Card” on page 4-18 .
NOTE: Ferrites, or EMI filters, are required for this interface on all SDM-9220 and
SDM-9230 UAC models that are installed and operated in the European
Union to ensure compliance with the European standard EN 55024:1998 + A1
+ A2. Refer to
“Installing the Ferrites (EMI Filters)” on page 4-26 .
9.2 Hardware Features
The Universal E&M/PTT interface card:
• Provides a 2/4-wire analog interface on 4 physical ports
• Supports applications carrying E&M transparent PPT signals of any voltage from
-48VDC to +48VDC
• Eliminates the need for an expensive PTT to E&M converter
• Can be used within a range of -48VDC to +48VDC for these applications.
The Universal E&M/PTT card replaces the following legacy E&M-PTT cards,
which are now obsoleted:
- +48VDC: Ordering Part No. 161-1093-003
- -48VDC: Ordering Part No. 161-1093-001
- +24VDC: Ordering Part No. 161-1093-004
- -24VDC: Ordering Part No. 161-1093-002
9.2.1 Cable and Connector
Use an RJ-45 cable to connect your equipment to the E&M/PTT interface card. This cable
is a solid wire cable with 8 conductors and RJ-45 plugs (8 pins) at both ends. Up to four
RJ-45 to RJ-45 cables are required for each E&M/PTT interface card.
