After fi ring is confi rmed, the post-period begins (see
Figure 5-3).
The controller monitors the temperature rise and

determines the final temperature rise by either the
dynamic or equilibrium criteria as established by the
user.
Once the final temperature rise is determined, it is

recorded with the test results.

At the completion of the post-period, the rinse and
cool sequence begins (see Figure 5-4).
Tap water is circulated through the bucket to cool

the bomb to the starting temperature.
The release valve in the bottom of the bomb is

opened and the residual pressure is released through
the bomb exhaust line.
Once the excess oxygen is vented, the bomb wash
3.
water from the carboy of the rinse water tank is
admitted through the bomb wash solenoid valve and
the check valve at the top of the bomb. The bomb
wash water is released to the wash bottle.
Several rinse patterns may be confi gured by the user
to meet various operational and analytical require-
ments.
The bomb is fi lled one more time with oxygen to help
fl ush the water residue from the interior of the bomb.

At the completion of the bomb rinse sequence, the
drain sequence begins (see Figure 5-5).
The water in the bucket is drained out of the bucket

and routed to the drain connection.
Once the bucket is drained, the calorimeter may be

opened to remove the bomb head and load the next
sample.
The test result will be printed or displayed in ac-

cordance with the setting of the Report Schedule on
the Reporting Controls Submenu.
