Programming the Remote to Operate Other
Devices
The universal remote can be programmed to operate many brands of remote-c:ontrollable VCRs,
audio devices, DVD players, cable boxes, satellite receivers and other devices. In addition to being
programmed
to
operate your television, it’s already programmed
to
operate some
RCA
devices.
A second and third RCA TV can be programmed to any device button, exc:ept the W button.
Notes: Ti:>e TV button can’t be programmed on this remote to control ariy device; it
controls only this TV,
ne remote may not he compatible with all models of all brands of devices. It also may not
operate allfunctkms of your device.
Find Out if You Need to Program the Remote
iro determine whether the universal remote needs to be programmed to operate one of the
devices connected to your IT', such as a VCR, do the following;
1. Turn on the device (in this examjsle, a VCR).
2. I’oint the remote at the device.
3- -Press the corresponding device button (in this example, SAT• AUX).
4. Press ON»OFF to see if the VCR responds. If the VCR doesn’t respond, you need tti program
the remote to operate it.
Programming the Remote
There are three ways to program the remote control to operate other devices: Direct Entry, Manual
Code Search,
and Automatic Code Search.
If you have recently purchased the device you want to
control or if the device has many codes, von .might wa.nt to t:iy the ma.n.ual code sea.i:ch first.
Using Direct Entry
1. Turn on the device you want to control,

Look up the brand and code number(s) for the device in. tlie code list at the end of this

On your remote
control,
simultaneously press and
hold the ON »OFF and MUTE buttons
(approximately 3 seconds) until a device button remains lit. Then release the buttons.
,P.i:ess a.nd .irelease the device button (SAT».Al.IX, DVD) you want to progra.m.
Enter a three digit code from the code list.
To test the code you’ve programmed for that devic:e button, point the remote at the device and
then press ON »OFF to see if the device responds to the remote control.
If the device turns off, you’ve entered the correct p:i:ogramming code for your device. Ci.i:cle
the code you entered for future reference.
If the device doesn’t turn off, repeat these steps until y'ou’ve tested all t:odes for your dev ice’s
brand or t.iw to am a manual code search,
