Before starting the agent, verify that you are running the minimum Java version JDK 1.6.0_x.

Starting the Agent as a Service
To start the agent as a service, you must initially create the service. The following procedures

create and start the agent service. See the procedure for your system type.

On UNIX

1 Log in as root and change to the directory where you installed the agent software.

For example: cd /se-agent

2 Run the following command:

./installagentservice.sh
For example:

./installagentservice.sh /

Where is the complete directory path specified in step 4 of

Installing the

Software

on page 26. This restarts the agent automatically when the server restarts.

On Windows

1 Open a command window and navigate to the directory where you installed the agent

software.
For example: cd /se-agent

2 Run the following command:

installagentservice.bat
For example:

installagentservice.bat /

Where is the complete directory path specified in step 4 of

Installing the

Software

on page 26. This restarts the agent.

Starting the Agent as a Background Process in UNIX
On UNIX, you can run the agent as a background process by starting the agent manually.

When you run the agent as a background process, you do not need to create an agent service.

Note If you start the agent manually, you must restart the agent whenever the server restarts.
