7.

Remove the hex screw using a 9/16” wrench.
See Figure 4.12.

NOTE: The yoke will slide out as the screw is

removed.

NOTE: Do not use an impact wrench on the left

side. The impact pulses can cause the mag-
net to pop out of the screw head.

8.

Remove the washers from the top of the axle cast-
ing.

NOTE: If replacing the yoke, remove the steering

gear by following the procedures described
in the steering gear section of this chapter.

To install the yoke:

1.

Align the hole of the inboard steering gear with the
hole in the axle casting.

2.

Slide one of the 5/16” alignment pins, from align-
ment tool kit 759-05013, through the hole in the axle
casting, passing all the way through the inboard
steering gear. See Figure 4.11.

3.

Slide the yoke into the axle casting from the under-
side.

NOTE: The flat side of the yoke should be parallel

with the box section of the frame.
See Figure 4.14.

4.

Slide the wave washer over the yoke shaft.
See Figure 4.14.

Install the hex screw:

For the right yoke

5a.

Install the hex screw with a lock washer and
the fender washer.

5b.

Tighten the hex screw holding the yoke to a
torque of 31 ft lbs (42 Nm).
