Hemodynamic Calculations
The ITC AVOXimeter 1000E can calculate ten hemodynamic variables (such as body surface
area, estimated oxygen consumption rate, and cardiac output using the Fick principle) from data
that is entered by the operator or measured by the instrument. It can also calculate differences in
oxygen saturation between adjacent anatomical sites (Saturation Step-Ups) from which blood
samples were taken, to aid in diagnosing intracardiac and great vessel shunts.
Entering the Patient Age, Height, Weight, and Sex
The patient’s age, height, weight, and sex are used to calculate the patient’s body surface area
and rate of oxygen consumption.
