5 Configuration operations
This chapter provides instructions for setting up a Continuous Access Synchronous system that is
ready for pair operations.
Configuration workflow
1.
Check prerequisites for each procedure.
2.
In the production system, identify the production volume or volumes that will become Continuous
Access Synchronous P-VOLs. In the remote backup system, create the volumes that will become
the S-VOLs. For information on pair volume requirements, see
3.
On the primary and secondary systems, install the data paths. For more information, see
“Planning data paths” (page 25)
.
4.
On primary and secondary systems, configure the Fibre Channel ports that will be used for
Continuous Access Synchronous operations. Configure initiator and RCU target ports. Review
, then see
“Define port attributes” (page 40)
for details.
5.
On the primary system, create the Continuous Access Synchronous association with the
secondary system where your S-VOL(s) will be located. See
“Configure storage systems, define
. Logical paths between the systems are added during this procedure.
You may also perform these additional procedures prior to the initial copy:
•
Add additional logical paths. See
“Configure additional logical paths” (page 46)
•
Specify the number of volumes to copy at one time. See
“Set number of volumes to be copied
concurrently, path watch time” (page 47)
.
Define port attributes
Initiator and RCU target ports must be set up on the primary and secondary systems for Continuous
Access Synchronous command and data transfer.
Prerequisite information
Before configuring ports, make sure they are ready to have a new attribute assigned:
•
If you are changing a target port to an initiator port, prepare the port for the change as follows:
Confirm that the port is offline from the host.
◦
◦
Disconnect the port from the host.
◦
Remove all channel paths to the port.
•
If you are changing an initiator port to target or RCU target port, prepare the port for the
change as follows:
◦
Delete the paths from the initiator port to the remote storage system.
◦
Delete the RCU.
The number of hosts connected to a target port must be limited to 128 or fewer to avoid
disconnection. See
for information on target, initiator, and RCU target
ports.
Procedure 1 To define port attributes
1.
On the menu bar, click Actions > Remote Copy > Continuous Access Synchronous > RCU
Operation. The RCU Operation window opens.
2.
Change to Modify mode by clicking the
icon.
