Selecting the tape density

Tape density format can be controlled by the display unit or by the NonStop server. When the
appropriate drivers exist, the latter method is generally preferred and a setting of FF should be
used. These other density values allow the SCSI bridge electronics to control the tape density:

C0 = Compressed mode

40

= Noncompressed

mode

FF = Density controlled by the host software

Note: Once the settings have been configured through the setup menus, these settings become

the default start-up values. Density can be changed on a tape-by-tape basis any time the

tape is at BOT during normal Performance Display operation. Pressing the mode switch
cycles the available density settings. Pressing the mode switch a second time selects the

setting. This setting is used until the unit is power cycled or reset. The setting selected in
the setup menu is then used as the default value.
