drive testing. Other features of the SCSI bridge electronics include software configuration retained in
nonvolatile memory, flash memory for firmware upgrade, and low semiconductor parts count for reliability.

2.2 Initial

LCD

After applying power to the tape drive, the SCSI bridge electronics attempt to access the drive at the selected
tape ID. Typically, tape drives require a few seconds to perform their self-test before they respond. The tape

drive is not selectable to the NonStop server during this period. If the tape ID has not been correctly selected
the tape drive will not complete its power-up sequence and remains inaccessible to the NonStop server. The

tape ID is set at the factory and is NOT user-selectable. If the tape drive fails to complete its power-up
sequence, contact the HP GCSC.

When the drive is accessed, the LCD presents the tape drive model identification and firmware level on the

top two lines, and the SCSI bridge electronics' product name, firmware level and host SCSI ID on the
bottom two lines. The tape drive is now selectable by the NonStop server at the host SCSI ID.

Performance LCD Format

Upon receiving a TEST UNIT READY or INQUIRY SCSI command from the host, the LCD switches to

the performance format. This is the main operational format of the LCD. The top two lines of the LCD
always display the current SCSI command and the tape-capacity bar graph. The bottom two lines of the
display alternate between five performance/status items.
