High-density
A type of diskette format that allows you to store more data than
normal. The Equity Ie uses double-density diskettes only; high-density
diskettes cannot be used in the Equity Ie diskette drives.
Input/output (I/O) port
See Port.
Interface
A hardware or software connection that is used to transmit data
between equipment or programs.
Joystick
A pointing device that uses a moveable stick mounted in a socket.
When you push the stick in a certain direction, the cursor moves in
the same direction on the screen.
Keyboard
A device resembling a typewriter keyboard that is used to enter letters
and numbers to the computer.
Kilobyte (KB)
A unit used to measure storage space in a computer’s memory or on a
disk. One kilobyte equals 1024 bytes.
LED
Light Emitting Diode. A substance that is illuminated when electricity
passes through it, like the indicator lights above the Equity Ie keyboard.
Main unit
The part of the computer that houses the central processing unit and
the disk drives.
MCGA
The built-in video controller that runs either a color or monochrome
VGA monitor.
Megabyte (MB)
A unit used to measure storage space in a computer’s memory or on a
disk. One megabyte equals l,048,576 bytes.
