5.2.2.1 (CONFIG:) MANUAL
ONLINE:
TRAFFIC REDUNDANT (ENT)
When the Switch is in AUTO‐OFF (manual) Mode, you may select which modem should be
online. Use the ◄►arrow keys to select the TRAFFIC Modem as online (i.e., bridging) or the
REDUNDANT Modem as online (i.e., backing up). Press ENTER to configure.
When the Switch is in AUTO‐ON (automatic) Mode, manual selection is not available. The Switch
has control and automatically backs up the Traffic Modem based on its fault relay activity. The
Switch learns and retains the configuration of the Traffic Modem – use this configuration
information to program the Redundant Modem.
In AUTO‐ON Mode, the (CONFIG:) MANUAL screen appears as follows:
ONLINE: (AUTO)
TRAFFIC REDUNDANT (ENT)
5.2.2.2 (CONFIG:) AUTO [OFF or ON]
OPERATING MODE:
AUTO-OFF AUTO-ON (ENTER)
Select the operating mode as AUTO‐OFF (manual) or AUTO‐ON (automatic). In AUTO‐OFF
Mode, the Switch does not respond automatically to any modem faults and simply performs as
per the current setting of the (CONFIG:) MANUAL submenu.
The front panel “STORED EVENT” LED indicator blinks when in AUTO‐OFF Mode to alert you that
the Switch is effectively not in use.
5.2.2.3 (CONFIG:) HOLDOFFS
BACKUP HOLDOFF SEC: 05
RESTORE HOLDOFF SEC: 10
Set the holdoffs, or delay times, between the Switch’s modem alarm detection and its reaction
to the event. These holdoffs are only applicable when the Switch is in Auto Mode. When an
active modem exhibits an unmasked fault, the Switch checks that the Redundant Modem is not
also faulted. If there is no fault, the Backup Holdoff determines how long the Switch will wait
before performing the actual backup, or switchover of traffic to the Redundant Modem.
When the Switch is currently backing up a Traffic Modem, and that offline modem’s fault clears,
the Switch will continue to back it up unless the active modem becomes faulted. In this case, the
