% value and pulse rate. When the initial values are determined they will be shown in
the SpO
2
display and the Pulse Rate display respectively.
NOTE:
If you fail to see any SpO
2
or pulse signal bargraph readings, check that you have
properly inserted the sensor into the Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitor.
3. The SpO
2
% and pulse rate are updated approximately every second.
4. Removing the SpO
2
sensor from the patient ends the monitoring period and immediately blanks
the pulse signal bar graph. The SpO
2
display will flash 2 dashes "- -" and a repetitive audible
alarm will sound. To reset the sensor removal alarm, press the SILENCE button on the
Monitor's display.
NOTE:
If the programmable alarms for low SpO
2
%, high pulse rate and low pulse rate are
turned off, no sensor removal alarm will occur when the SpO
2
sensor is removed from
the patient.
NOTE:
Prolonged use of the pulse oximetry probe may require you to change the location of
the probe. Move it to another finger every few hours. Monitor skin condition and
circulation in the finger. Refer to the directions for use provided with each sensor for
specific instructions on application and use.
NOTE:
Older style Nellcor sensors and extension cables are not compatible with the
connector on the Nellcor option with motion tolerance and must not be plugged into it.
However, new style Nellcor sensors and extension cables can be used with all Nellcor
options and can be plugged into either the old or new style connectors. The new style
sensor and connectors are illustrated below.
Many factors may degrade the performance of the pulse oximeter, as indicated by a lowered rise of
the Plethysmograph display. These include:
•
Excessive ambient light, particularly fluorescent light
•
Excessive patient movement
•
Excessive duration on one finger
•
Cold hands/digits or hypothermia
•
Electrosurgical interference
•
Arterial catheters, blood pressure and fusion lines
•
Moisture in the sensor
•
Improperly attached sensor
•
Incorrect sensor for the patient
