Chapter 1

Installation Overview

To remove the covers, refer to Figure 1-1 and do the following:

1. Turn off the HP NetServer and disconnect the power cord.

WARNING Before removing the cover, always disconnect the power cord

and unplug telephone cables. Disconnect the power cord to
avoid exposure to high energy levels that may cause burns

when parts are short-circuited by metal objects such as tools or

jewelry. Disconnect telephone cables to avoid exposure to

shock hazard from telephone ringing voltages.

Note that the power switch does NOT turn off the standby
power. Disconnect the power cord from the HP NetServer to
turn off the standby power before handling components.

CAUTION

Wear a wrist strap and use a static-dissipating work surface
connected to the chassis when handling components.

2. Unlock the front bezel with the key in the key bag located on the rear of the

HP NetServer.

3. Remove the ^ont bezel:

a. Pull on the pocket on the side of the front bezel to swing that side of the

bezel outward.

b. Pull the front bezel off the HP NetServer. This exposes the

thumbscrews on the top cover.

4. Remove the top cover:

a. Loosen both thumbscrews on the front of the HP NetServer.

b. Pull the front of the top cover forward 1/16 inch (1.5 mm), and then lift

the ^ont up only far enough to create a gap of 1 inch (3 cm) between
the top cover and the chassis.

CAUTION

Only li^ the front of the top cover high enough to create a gap

of 1 inch (3 cm) between the top cover and the chassis. Lifting

the top cover higher can damage it and the chassis.

c. Push the top cover back, and li^ it off. The Technical Reference Label

is inside the top cover.
