Slots 2, 3, 4, and 5 can accommodate full-length cards. Slot 6 can accommodate a full-length card if
the integrated SCSI connector is not used. Slot 1 accommodates only half-length cards. To identify
expansion-card slots, see Figure A-3.
Installing an Expansion Card
CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the
online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is
not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
NOTE:
A RAC expansion card must be installed in expansion-card slot 4. See Figure A-3 to locate the
correct expansion-card slot.
1 Unpack the expansion card, and prepare it for installation.
For instructions, see the documentation that accompanied the card.
2 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the
electrical outlet.
3 Open the system. See "Opening the System" in "Troubleshooting Your System."
4 If your system is configured as a tower, lay the system on its right side.
5 Remove the filler bracket from the expansion slot.
6 Install the expansion card:
a Position the expansion card so that the card-edge connector aligns with the expansion-
card connector on the system board. If the card is a full-length card, insert its front edge
into the expansion-card guide. See Figure 6-3.
b Insert the card-edge connector firmly into the expansion-card connector until the card is
fully seated.
c Install the screw that secures the expansion-card bracket to the back panel.
7 Connect any cables that should be attached to the card.
See the documentation that accompanied the card for information about its cable
connections.
8 Close the system. See "Closing the System" in "Troubleshooting Your System."
9 Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn the system on, including any attached
peripherals.
