Instruction sheet, Installation instructions ibxs

WARNING: When using special control devices with this fixture, follow instructions carefully to ensure N.E.C. compliance. For
more help, contact a qualified electrical contractor.
CAUTION: To complete the installation, choose only UL listed Prescolite trims from the label inside the housing. The use of any trim
not listed in this fixture is a violation of N.E.C. article 110-3(B) and voids all warranties.
FOR I.C. APPLICATIONS where the fixture may be in direct contact with insulation, remove the peel off warning label (1) from
the housing (2) that reads: “WARNING RISK OF FIRE, DO NOT INSTALL INSULATION WITHIN 3 INCHES OF THE SIDES OF THE
HOUSINGS”.
FOR NON-I.C. APPLICATIONS where, except for mounting points, the fixture is installed at least 1/2” from any combustible
surface and insulation is a minimum of 3 inches from all sides, remove the peel off I.C. wattage label (3) from inside the housing (2).
1. For joist installation: Use the centering notches (4) located on the plaster frame (14) to position the fixture. Extend the hanger
bars (5) and position the alignment tabs (6) underneath the support joist (7) (Fig.2). Drive the affixed fastener (8) into the support
joist (7) to secure the housing. Drive additional fasteners through holes in hanger bars (9) for alternate support as needed (Fig.2).
2. For suspended ceilings: Using a flat head screwdriver or other tool, bend the integral t-bar mounting tabs (10) downward to a
vertical position (Fig.3). Position the housing over the inverted t-bar (11) (Fig.4). Secure housing to support structure with tie wire
(supplied by others) in the holes supplied (9). Secure the housing to the inverted t-bar with sheetmetal screws (supplied by others) in
the holes supplied (10).
3. Locate housing along hanger bar in desired position and, using pliers, squeeze the 4 locking tabs (13) on the plaster frame
(14) tightly over the bars to prevent further housing movement (Fig.4). Bar hangers (5) may be installed in alternate slots (15) if
perpendicular orientation is desired.
4. As desired, hanger bars (5) may be shortened to fit in narrow joist spacings by breaking at the score lines (25) provided (Fig. 5).
5. Unsnap junction box cover (16) by lifting the leaf spring (17).
6. Run supply wires through UL listed connectors (supplied by others) in one of the five pryouts (18) on the junction box (19) or type
NM cable (ROMEX) through an opening above the wire retaining plate (20). Connect wires (21) as shown in Fig. 8. Replace cover
(16).
7. FOR AIR-TIGHT APPLICATIONS: This Prescolite product is Air-Tight approved per ASTM E283 testing standards and complies
with Washington State Energy Code requirements. To complete the installation of this Air-Tight product, the opening between the
ceiling (24) and housing edge (26) must be sealed by the installer using silicone caulking, tape, or any other means acceptable to
the local code official. Prescolite accessory gasket kit G6 (purchased separately) can be used for this purpose (Fig.6).
8. Select a trim from the wattage label inside the housing. Use only lamp types and wattages approved for the trim chosen.
DO NOT EXCEED MAXIMUM LISTED WATTAGES!
9. Loosen wingnut (22) to adjust housing (2) for variations in ceiling media thickness.
This instruction sheet can also be used as a Paint Shield. Upon completion of installation,
crumple this sheet up and insert it in the housing to protect the wattage label from paint spray.
INTRUCTION SHEET MUST BE REMOVED FROM FIXTURE PRIOR TO ENERGIZING.
