8.

The DataFID will automatically start with “DataFID Setup” on the display. Simply press the middle red

soft key (“meas”) to initiate the “Flame ON Procedure.” After a few moments, measurements in ppm
should be shown on the display, and the flame icon should be present.

9. The calibration function is initiated by pressing both the left and right soft keys at the same time.

NOTE: See Calibration procedure in Chapter 3 User Functions immediately following these steps for a full
discussion on the calibration process.

10. To turn off the DataFID, follow the steps shown on the Shut Down DataFID Menu Figure 15 in
Chapter 3 User Functions.

Calibration

The DataFID must be calibrated in order to display concentration in ppm units equivalent to the calibration
gas. See section

“Calibrating the DataFID (General)” in Chapter 3 User Functions for a full description of

calibration procedure for the DataFID.

NOTE: The DataFID must be operated in an upright position during calibration.

Data Communication

The DataFID links to external devices via Bluetooth. This wireless technology is used to communicate
with an external PC for uploading information to the DataFID and for downloading measurement data
collected during the process of field monitoring activity. It can also communicate with external PDA

’s

which may be used for Method 21 LDAR monitoring

Refer to Chapter 4 for more information regarding Bluetooth communication set-up and operation.

Method 21 Operation

Method 21 is a US EPA sampling protocol for the determination of volatile organic compound (VOC)
leaks in process equipment. Method 21 protocol must be familiarized in order to use the DataFID for
Method 21 monitoring. The specifications outlined in the Method 21 documentation must be used for
monitoring the desired sites.

As part of the Method 21 operation, setup the DataFID to identify and monitor various locations. Since
each location may contain different compounds and concentration ranges, store a Cal Memory and the
associated response factor and alarm level as part of each event. With this practice, multiple locations
may be sampled without having to re-calibrate the DataFID at each location.
