5.4.2 Establishing the hose connection
Place the basic device in a suitable location.
1. Screw the cooling liquid connections supplied with the circulating chiller
onto the threaded connectors (Fig. 5-2 (9 and 10)) using a 19 mm span-
ner. You need a hose of a nominal width of 7 - 8 mm for supply and return
to connect the condenser of the rotary evaporator to its circulating chiller.
2. Connect the hose for the supply to the threaded connector (Fig. 5-2 (10))
at the back of the device, ensuring it is leak-proof. Connect the runback to
connector (Fig. 5-2 (9)).
3. Secure the hoses against accidental slipping with hose clamps. You
should insulate the hose connections in order to avoid energy loss.
5.4.3 Filling the circulating chiller
Hoses are connected.
The device is fitted with a protector against overfilling.
Remove the lid from the filler (Fig. 5-1 (3)) and slowly pour in cooling liq-
uid. Fill up to 1-2 cm below the hose end of the level indicator (Fig. 5-1
(2)). This is also the maximum filling level of the circulating chiller, other-
wise the fluid will run out at the front of the level indicator (Fig. 5-1 (2)).
This prevents overflowing of the container inside the device and liquid
penetrating the inside of the device.
Switch the device on using the main switch (Fig. 5-1 (1)). The device be-
gins the circulation process and the fluid is pumped into the condenser of
the rotary evaporator. If no fluid has been filled into the condenser, the fill-
ing level inside the Rotacool mini will continuously drop, therefore keep
topping up until a constant filling level has been reached. Never block the
open hose end. In addition to indicating the filling level, the hose also pro-
tects against overflow.
The overflow hose (Fig. 5-1 (2)) must never be blocked and the cooling liquid
must be able to drain from the overflow. However, if the fluid is changed fre-
quently or the device is being operated for the first time it is advisable to pull a
hose over the overflow hose and to place the far end into a suitable collection
container.
