Installation Notes
See Figure 6-18: “Shift Cylinder Assembly” on page 6-40.
To install, follow the preceding steps in the reverse order, paying
attention to the following:

Review preceding section “Before You Begin...,” beginning on
page 6-1.
❑
Pay attention to section “Cleaning and Inspection Guidelines,”
beginning on page 6-6 to ensure a thorough installation.
❑
Using a light coating of general-purpose grease to hold it in
place, install gasket on gearbox.
❑
Apply a light coating of general-purpose grease and install a
new seal ring on the piston then install piston on shaft. Make
sure the flat side of the piston is towards the inside of the
cylinder.
❑
Make sure the piston and shaft move freely in the shift
cylinder.
Sliding Gear and Fork Assembly
See Figure 6-17: “Lower Housing Assembly” on page 6-37.
Notes: It is required to remove the pump and intermediate shaft
assemblies and the tail shaft assembly to expose the sliding gear and
fork.
1. With the following assemblies removed, access to the sliding
gear and fork assembly is provided:

Pump head, see page 6-17
❑
Upper housing assembly, see page 6-33
❑
Sliding gear shaft assembly, see page 6-37
2. Reaching through the top of the gearbox housing, carefully
remove the sliding gear.
Make a note of the location of the gearshift fork (the screw) in
relation to the gearshift shaft before removing.
3. Loosen the screw attaching the gearshift fork to the shaft, then
remove the shaft from the gearbox housing.
4. Reaching through the top of the gearbox housing, carefully
remove the gearshift fork with the screw attached.
