Stainless Max Series Pumps
If the tail shaft or the sliding gear shaft require service, it is not
necessary to remove the gearbox from the apparatus.
Removal
See Figure 6-17: “Lower Housing Assembly” on page 6-37.
1. Disconnect the electrical connector to the tachometer/speed
counter switch, if equipped.
2. Remove the four screws securing the front bearing cap to the
gearbox housing.
3. Slide (pull back) the sliding shaft assembly from the gearbox
housing.
Be careful not to drop the needle bearing or the sliding gear
into the housing as the shaft assembly is being removed.
Reach in and remove each part as the shaft is being removed.
4. Remove the retaining ring from the sliding gear shaft, then
slide the bearing from the shaft.
If the needle bearing came out with the assembly, remove the
bearing and set safely aside. If not, make sure that it is in the
tail shaft bore, in the housing.
5. Remove the sliding gear shaft from the front bearing cap.
6. Remove (drive out) the oil seal from the front bearing cap.
