Connecting a local printer
To connect and configure your printer, follow the instructions in your
printer manufacturer’s installation guide.
You can connect a printer to the computer’s parallel port (burgundy),
serial port (teal), or USB port, depending on the type of printer you are
connecting. Check the documentation that came with your printer to
determine the type of port required.
Never connect the printer cable while the computer’s power is on. Doing
so may damage the printer, the computer, or both.
If you have a parallel or serial printer, you should have a separate printer
cable that you must connect to both the printer and the computer. USB
printers have integrated cables, so you only need to connect the cable to
the computer.

Install any optional components or accessories at this time. For more
information about installing additional equipment, see Hardware for the
Equium
TM
8000S.
Connecting to a power source
Before connecting your computer to a power source, read the following
sections.
Power precautions
To help prevent injury to yourself or damage to the computer:
Y Never plug in AC power cables until you have installed and
connected all the system components.
Y Always plug power cables into grounded, three-hole outlets.
Y Never connect or disconnect components while the power is on.
Y Use a power filter/surge protector (not included) for AC power
connections to your system and for any phone/modem connections.
Y In the event of a severe electrical storm, disconnect all the power
cables and the telephone cable.
Y Before turning on the computer, check that its voltage setting is
correct for the country in which you are going to use it. See Setting
the voltage switch.
Y Damaged power cables can cause fire or electric shock. Never
modify, forcibly bend, place heavy objects on top of, or apply heat
to a power cable.
Y If the power cable becomes damaged or the plug overheats, replace
it immediately to avoid the risk of fire or electric shock.
Y Never pull directly on the power cable to unplug it. Always hold the
power plug when removing the cable from the outlet.
Y Never remove the power plug when your hands are wet. This may
cause an electric shock.
