Storage Management Appliance Software User Guide
Storage Management Appliance (SMA)
An HP product consisting of a rack-mounted computer processor running software used to manage
a Storage Area Network (SAN). Users interact with the software using a browser-based interface.
supported device
A device that generates an SNMP trap message that the Storage Management Appliance can
decode and then send a detailed notification message to selected users. Supported devices have
event code definitions that allow the Storage Management Appliance to decode trap messages. For
each supported device, a Management Appliance user can specify the event types for which they
are notified. See “

user (privilege level)
One of three privilege levels, one of which is assigned to each Storage Management Appliance
user. A user assigned the user level can view and modify most parts of their own user properties.
With User privileges, a user can receive notifications, but cannot view or change discovered
devices or notification settings. See “

assigning privilege levels.
value-added HP storage management application
One of several optional HP applications that can be installed on the Storage Management
Appliance hardware and accessed through the Storage Management Appliance software. These
additional management applications include:

wizard page
One of several display types found in the content pane of the Storage Management Appliance
interface. A wizard page is one of a series used to complete a specific task. You make selections or
entries on a wizard page and click Next to display the next page in the series or click Finish on the
last page to exit the wizard series. See “
