features the person can use. The available privilege levels are User, Operator, and Administrator.

Appendix C

properties page
One of several display types found in the content pane of the Storage Management Appliance
interface. A properties page is one of a set that displays information about a selected item such as a
discovery or a user. Each page contains tabs down the left side that provide links to other pages in
the set. See

Content Pane

” on page 16 for information about different display types.

remote access
Feature that allows the Storage Management Appliance software to store access information
required by one management application to initiate communication with another
application—called a target application. An administrator can create an access profile for each of
several target applications. For example, you can create a profile for an HSV controller that allows
the Network View application to obtain information about HSV devices from the controller.

An access profile identifies the host computer and includes a user name and password. See

Remote Access

” on page 36 for detailed information.

SAN discovery
A discovery type that identifies devices and applications connected to the SAN fabric. A SAN
discovery identifies devices that cannot be identified by an IP discovery. See “

About Discoveries

on page 46 for more information.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
A protocol that allows secure communication over the Internet using data encryption. SSL uses
RSA public-key encryption between specific TCP/IP ports and a program layer located between
HTTP and TCP layers. By convention, URLs requiring an SSL connection start with https: instead
of http:. See “

Security Features

” on page 21 for more information.
