system. A command device must be set up in the storage system to enable the
storage system to receive commands from RAID Manager.
In an open system, Replication Manager uses the RAID Manager configuration
definition files to modify copy pair configurations and to acquire configuration
information. Copy pair modification processing, such as splitting and
re-synchronizing copy pairs, is executed on the storage system by RAID Manager.
Remote Device
Manager A Device Manager server that is managed by Replication Manager as an
information source, but is running on a on a different management server from
Replication Manager. A Device Manager server running at the primary site can
also be a remote Device Manager if it is running on a management server that
is not running Replication Manager.
RCU Remote Control Unit
refresh The term refresh refers to updating the database that is maintained by
Replication Manager using the most recent information. This database stores
copy pair configuration information and copy pair status information obtained
from Device Manager servers, Device Manager agents, HP StorageWorks P9000
for Business Continuity Manager Software, and XP7 mainframe agent.
remote path A logical path linking storage systems that is used for remote copying (replication
of volumes between storage systems).
Remote Scan A volume scan that can be performed on Non Gen'ed volumes outside the site
where HP StorageWorks P9000 for Business Continuity Manager Software
resides. The remote DAD attribute is assigned to the disk configuration definition
file in which the discovered volumes are stored.
Route List A list that defines the relationship of the connections between the command
devices in storage systems and that indicates the routes of commands issued by
Business Continuity Manager. This list is required for performing operations such
as remote scans by a command device.

Snapshot Group A group of pairs created using Snapshot/Fast Snap. Use of a snapshot group
allows the same operation to be applied to more than one pair at a time.Like
device groups, snapshot groups are managed in the storage system rather than
the configuration definition file.
Snapshot Pool Object within a storage subsystem that provides storage regions to zero or more
V-VOLs (made up of one or more LDEVs).
SP-VOL
(secondary-primary
volume) The volume located in the middle of a cascade structure, when a cascade structure
is used by the volume replication functionality of a storage system. Indicates the
secondary volume in an upper level copy pair or the primary volume in a lower
level copy pair.
S-VOL (secondary
volume) The copy destination volume of two volumes that are associated in a copy pair
by a storage system volume replication functionality.
Snapshot Software used to duplicate volumes in a single storage system. Snapshot
duplicates differential data in a data pool. The secondary volume is a virtual
volume that consists of the primary volume and the differential data. By duplicating
