Maintaining the Tape Drive
This section includes these topics:
The only required maintenance task is to periodically run or replace the cleaning
cartridge. You can run user diagnostics from the Demo menu. To check the
operation of the tape drive. Occasionally, HP issues new firmware upgrades that
must be performed by a service provider.
Cleaning the Tape Drive
To run a cleaning cartridge, issue a command to run the cartridge from the
control panel, or select the Auto Clean mode on the Configure menu, described
in
Section 2, Installing and Configuring the Tape Drive
. The procedures that
follow describe how to install a cleaning cartridge, how to clean a tape drive
using front panel controls, and how to remove the cleaning cartridge.
Installing the Cleaning Cartridge
If you run the cleaning cartridge manually only, there are no restrictions on the
location of the cleaning cartridge. However, if the Auto Clean option you use
must reserve one or more slots in the magazine by using the Reserved Slots
option described in Section 2. Any reserved slots in the magazine become
inaccessible to the server software. In these cases, the tape drive designates
these inaccessible slots as cleaning cartridge slots. On line 4 of the
Maintenance menu shown in
, cleaning slot 1 appears instead of slot
10. If slots have been reserved, cleaning slot 1 is the first reserved slot in the
tape magazine.
Installing
To install the cleaning cartridge:
1. Examine the Default screen on the Control Panel to determine whether a
tape cartridge is loaded in the drive. If so, unload it as described in
Section 3, Operating the Tape Drive
2. Remove the tape magazine from the tape drive using the procedure
described in
Section 3, Operating the Tape Drive
