spread spectrum wireless mesh technology. Wireless applications can be as simple as a single field device
communicating with a host controller or any number of field devices forming a network of subscribers.
Each device in the network is assigned a Network ID and a Modbus™ address. Processing power is based
in a designated Modbus™ master while every slave device in the network is capable of functioning as a
router and repeater for all other devices in the network. This means that subscribers can “hop” through
neighboring devices to communicate with each other thereby widening network access points. This unique
and innovative technology is designed to create a robust network that automatically routes around
congestion and line-of-sight obstacles while improving throughput as subscriber device density increases.
Refer to the RXT-320’s instruction manual for more detailed information.
The connection between the RD-64X and the controller can be made using a pair of RXT-320 transceivers.
This is accomplished by connecting an RXT-320 to the Modbus slave port on the controller and a second
RXT-320 to the Modbus master port on the RD-64X. The connection between the RXT-320 and the RD-
64X is made through a Transient Protection Module. This connection is shown in the lower half of Figure
16.
A secondary RD-64X can be connected to the primary RD-64X using a second pair of RXT-320
transceivers. This is accomplished by connecting an RXT-320 to the Modbus slave port on the primary RX-
64X and a second RXT-320 to the Modbus master port on the secondary RD-64X. The connection between
the RXT-320 and the primary RD-64X is made through a Transient Protection Module. This connection is
shown in the upper half of Figure 16.
NOTE: When both the master and slave ports of the RD-64X use RXT-320 transceivers, the
master port RXT-320 must be on a different RF channel than the slave port RXT-320. Refer to
the RXT Instruction Manual for more information on setting the RF channel.
