Chapter 3
Installation
This chapter provides instructions to install the Summit Z3‐16 Exerciser, the PCI Express
Test Platform 16x2.5GT/s / 16x5.0GT/s / 16x8.0GT/s and software installation.
3.1 Software Installation
This section describes the PETracer software installation on your host machine. The
PETracer operates on systems using the Windows® XP, Windows 7 (x86, x64) Windows 8
(x86, x64), Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012 R2
operating systems. 64‐bit Windows OS is recommended because it allows using more
RAM memory. Other Operating Systems limit the RAM to 3GB.
Once you have installed the software, you can begin traffic generation after following the
steps in this chapter.
3.1.1 Installing the PETracer Software
PETracer software operates all of Teledyne LeCroy’s PCI Express protocol Analyzer and
Exerciser products. The PETracer software is installed on a Microsoft
®
Windows
®
‐based
host machine and serves as the interface for the Exerciser and/or Analyzer.
To install the PETracer software on the host machine:
1. Insert the CD into the CD ROM drive of the host machine that controls the Summit
Z3‐16 Exerciser. The installation window opens and displays links to the PETracer
software, user manuals, a readme file, and Acrobat Reader.
2. Click on the application and follow the instructions in the InstallShield Wizard for
PETracer.
3. The PETracer software installs automatically on the host machine’s hard disk. During
installation, all necessary USB drivers are loaded automatically.
4. To start the application, launch the PETracer program from the Start menu: 
Start > Programs > LeCroy > PETracer > LeCroy PETracer

You can also download the software from the Teledyne LeCroy website and install it
following steps 2 through 4 above.
