Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility,
telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This
precaution may be particularly important in rural areas.
Caution
Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric inspection
authority, or electrician, as appropriate.
The Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) assigned to each terminal device provides an indication of the maximum number
of terminals allowed to be connected to a telephone inter face. The termination on an inter face may consist of any
combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the sum of the Ringer Equivalence Numbers of all the
devices does not exceed 5.

DO NOT USE BEFORE READING THE INSTRUCTIONS: Do not connect the Ethernet por ts to a carrier or carriage ser vice
provider’s telecommunications network or facility unless: a) you have the written consent of the network or facility
manager, or b) the connection is in accordance with a connection permit or connection rules.
Connection of the Ethernet por ts may cause a hazard or damage to the telecommunication network or facility, or
persons, with consequential liability for substantial compensation.

The direct plug-in power supply ser ves as the main power disconnect; locate the direct plug-in power supply near
the product for easy access.

Telecommunication installation cautions

Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.

Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations.
■
Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the
network inter face.
■
Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
■
Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type) during an electrical storm. There may be a remote risk of
electric shock from lightning.
■
Do not use the telephone to repor t a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak.
