Changing Passwords
Passwords are stored in nonvolatile memory and can be changed through IPMI commands.
Administrator and OEM level users can change passwords through the Management
Processor CLI:
1. Log in to the Management Processor CLI as described in “Logging In to the Management
Processor CLI” in this chapter.
2. At the ProLiant> prompt, enter
changepassword
.
3. Enter the current password when prompted.
4. Enter the new password when prompted.
NOTE: Passwords are case-sensitive and can contain up to 16 characters.
5. Re-enter the new password when prompted.
Powering the Server On and Off and Resetting the Server Remotely
Using the CLI, Administrator and OEM level users can remotely operate the power button of
a host server. Virtual power support allows the user to power on, power off, and power cycle
the host server. This virtual power support is independent of the operating system and
functions regardless of the state of the operating system.
1. Log in to the Management Processor CLI as described in “Logging In to the Management
Processor CLI” in this chapter.
2. At the ProLiant> prompt, enter one of the following commands.

power on
—Powers on the server
—
power off
—Power off the server
—
reset warm
—Resets the server
—
reset cold
—Powers off the server and resets the server after a short time has
elapsed
