Pre-Ride Inspections

Rear Brake Pedal

1. Press downward on the rear brake pedal. It

should move freely and smoothly. It
should not move more than 3/8 inch (8
mm) before resistance is firm. It should
continue to feel firm, without loss of
pressure, until the pedal is released.

2. Release the pedal. It should return to its

rest position quickly when released.

3. If the rear brake pedal fails to perform as

stated or travels too far before beginning
to engage the brake, service the brakes
before riding.

4. See page 31 for rear brake pedal

adjustments.

Rear Brake Fluid Level

The rear brake fluid reservoir is located near the
rear brake pedal. View the reservoir from the front
right side of the vehicle.
1. Position the motorcycle on level ground in the

fully upright position.

2. View the brake fluid through the reservoir.
3. The fluid should be clear. Replace cloudy or

contaminated fluid.

4. The fluid level should be between the minimum

and maximum marks on the reservoir. Add
brake fluid as needed. See page 71.

Brake Lines

Inspect all brake hoses and connections for
dampness or stains from leaking or dried fluid.
Tighten any leaking connections and replace
components as necessary.

Tip: Refer to the service manual or contact your dealer

for fastener torque values.

WARNING! Brake fluid leaks or low brake fluid levels
could cause brake system failure, which could result in
serious injury or death. Do not operate the vehicle with
low brake fluid levels or when leaks are evident
(dampness or stains from dried fluid). See your VICTORY
dealer for service.
