– high-strength all-ceramic: zirconium oxide, lithium disilicate and
aluminium oxide ceramics
on implant abutments made of:
– oxide ceramic (e.g. zirconium oxide)
– metal (e.g. titanium)
Contraindication
SpeedCEM is contraindicated
–
in situations where the preparation does not provide adequate
retention (e.g. veneers).
–
in situations where the shape of the implant abutment does not provide
adequate retention.
–
if a patient is known to be allergic to any of the ingredients of
SpeedCEM.
–
in general, SpeedCEM should not be applied to exposed pulp or to
dentin which is close to the pulp.
Side effects
Systemic side effects are not known to date. In rare cases, allergic reactions
to single components have been reported.
Interactions
Phenolic substances (e.g. eugenol, wintergreen oil) inhibit the curing
process of composites. Consequently, the use of products, e.g. mouth rinses
and temporary cements, which contain these components should be
avoided.
Disinfectants and bleaching agents (e.g. hydrogen peroxide) with an
oxidative effect may interact with the initiator system, which in turn may
impair the curing process. At least one week should be waited between the
application of oxidative bleaching agents and disinfectants and adhesive
cementation materials.
Alkaline jet media compromise the effect of SpeedCEM.
Application
Pre-treatment of the cavity or tooth preparation
1. Removal of the temporary restoration and thorough cleaning of
the cavity
Remove possible residue of the temporary luting composite from the cavity
or preparation with a polishing brush and an oil- and fluoride-free cleaning
paste. Rinse with water spray. Then lightly dry with water- and oil-free air.
Avoid overdrying.
Note:
Cleaning with alcohol can lead to overdrying of the dentin.
2. Try-in of the restoration and isolation
Next, the shade, accuracy of fit and occlusion of the restoration can be
checked. Care should be taken when checking the occlusion of fragile and
brittle ceramic objects before they are permanently seated, because there is
a risk of fracture. If necessary, make corrections with fine diamonds at
medium speed and with slight pressure and adequate water cooling. Polish
ground surfaces. It is essential to ensure reliable isolation of the operative
area with e.g. OptraGate
®
, cotton rolls, saliva ejector and absorbent pads.
Dental hard tissue contaminated by saliva needs to be cleaned again as
indicated under point 1.
Pre-treatment of implant abutment
1. Removal of temporary
Remove temporary restoration and, if present, temporary abutment.
Rinse implant lumen and peri-implant gingiva.
2. Insert and check final abutment
According to the manufacturer’s directions.
A retraction cord may be placed to be better able to check the accuracy of
fit of the restoration and remove excess luting composite.
3. Try-in of the restoration and isolation
Next, the shade, accuracy of fit and occlusion of the restoration can be
checked. Care should be taken when checking the occlusion of fragile and
brittle ceramic objects before they are permanently seated, because there is
a risk of fracture. If necessary, make corrections with fine diamonds at
medium speed and with slight pressure. Polish ground surfaces. It is
essential to ensure reliable isolation of the operative area – preferably with
OptraGate, cotton rolls, saliva ejector and absorbent pads – when using
adhesive cementation with composites.
4. Pre-treatment of the abutment surface
–
Seal screw channel of the abutment using, e.g. a temporary restorative
material (Telio
®
CS Inlay). It is recommended to isolate the screw head
from the temporary restorative material with cotton pellets.
–
Rinse abutment with water spray.
–
Dry abutment.
Pre-treatment and insertion of restoration
1. Cleaning and pre-treatment of the restoration
Principally the manufacturer’s directions must be followed.
Or else:
1.1 Restorations made of metal and/or metal-based restorations
–
Sandblast the inner surfaces of the restoration (use the blasting
parameters stated in the instructions for use of the relevant material)
until a smooth surface is achieved.
–
If necessary, clean the restoration in an ultrasonic unit for approx.
1 minute.
–
Thoroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry with water-
/oil-free air.
–
IMPORTANT! In order to achieve a reliable bond, do not clean the
metal surfaces with phosphoric acid.
1.2 Restorations made of zirconium oxide (e.g. IPS e.max
®
ZirCAD) or
aluminium oxide ceramic
–
Sandblast the inner surfaces of the restorations (use the blasting
parameters stated in the instructions for use of the relevant material,
e.g. IPS e.max ZirCAD, max. 1 bar, Al
2
O
3
100 µm)
–
If necessary, clean the restoration in an ultrasonic unit for approx.
1 minute.
–
Thoroughly rinse the restoration with water spray and dry with water-/oil-
free air.
–
IMPORTANT! In order to achieve a reliable bond, do not clean
zirconium oxide surfaces with phosphoric acid.
