4. Press to capture the directional curves and end the test.
5. Highlight and Test 2. This is like Test 1 but without the speech. If the directional response of the
instrument is noise-adaptive, the curves will separate after 15 – 45 seconds. A speech-adaptive directional
instrument will remain omni-directional and no separation will be observed. Press to capture this
directional test result and end the test.
6. Press to close [Directional] and move to [Noise reduction].
Viewport Noise reduction test
1. On either the Viewport Test box or On-ear screen, highlight and [Noise reduction].
2. Leave the setup in the test box or on-ear as used for previous Viewport tests. (NOTE: The rear speaker is not
used for On-Ear noise reduction tests.)
3. Highlight and Test 1. This will present a continuous noise at 70 dB and capture the hearing aid
output within the first second as a heavy curve. A real-time output curve (light) will continue to be displayed
and will drop as the noise reduction feature of the instrument takes effect. A measure of the overall reduction
in wideband RMS between the two curves is displayed as a noise reduction (NR) value to the right of the
curves
4. Press to capture the curves and the NR result and end the test.
5. Highlight and Test 2 to administer the same as Test 1 but with a different type of noise.
NOTE: The order of noise stimulus presentations, the type of noise used and the level of the noise stimuli
can be configured through Viewport Setup in the Setup Menu. Hearing instruments with noise reduction can
vary in terms of their activation level. If an expected noise reduction result is not obtained at a given
presentation level, try increasing the level and repeating the test.
