SECTION 5. LEARN THE STITCHES

Corded Buttonholes

achieve a tailored, more attractive raised
buttonhole.

Use filler cord (at least 15 inches of heavy

thread).

Try a practice buttonhole first.

Hook the filler cord into the forks on the front of the J foot to hold them tight.

Lower the needle into the garment where the buttonhole will start and lower the foot.

Sew the buttonhole according to the buttonhole sewirtg instructions on p. 69 to 70.

Each side of the buttonhole and the bartacks will be sewn over the cord.

Remove the fabric from the machine and cut the sewing threads.

Pull the nghtend of the filler cord to tighten it.

8. Thread the end through a darning needle, draw to the bottom side of the fabric and cut.
