at an equal distance to the front speakers fromt the listening po­
sition, change the delay time to get better surround effect
•When D2 or D3 is equal to or larger than D1, no setting is nec­
essary. Otherwise, change the setting according to the table
below.

“Frame still” and “Field still" are automatically
selected during the still mode.

When small text or fine patterns cannot be
seen clearly.
•“2 Audio during Search”
On: You want sound during search.
(Factory setting)
Off: You do not want sound during search.
(Except for CD)
•“3 TV Mode (4:3)”
Pan & Scan: The video material for a wide-screen will be
played back in the Pan & Scan style on a con­
ventional size TV. (Factory setting)
•Video material not formatted in the Pan &
Scan style will be played back in the letterbox
style.
Letterbox: The video material for a wide-screen will be
played back in the letterbox style on a conven­
tional size TV.
•“4 D, (Dynamic) Range Compression”
Off: Normal audio range (Factory setting)
On: Dynamic sound even on a low volume. [This
only works with Dolby Digital DVDs.]
•“5 Still Picture Display”
Off: The picture type (i/P/B) will not be displayed in
the still picture mode. (Factory setting)
On: The picture type (I/P/B) will be displayed.
•“6 NTSC Disc output”
PAL60: Phase Alternating Line (Factory setting)
NTSC: National Television System Committee

What is meant by “i/P/B (picture type)"?
•l-picture (Intra coded picture)
Standard picture type. Each picture is coded separately.
•P-picture (Predictive coded picture)
This is computed on the basis of a past i-picture or P-picture.
•B-picture (Bidirectionally-predictive coded picture)
This is computed by comparing the previous and subsequent
l-picture or P-picture.
