Installing a Cooling Fan
WARNING:
Opening or removing the system cover when the system is on may
expose you to a risk of electric shock. Exercise utmost care while removing or
installing cooling fans.
CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician.
You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in
your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service
and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is
not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that
came with the product.
1 Align the connector on the fan with the connector on the system board.
2 Lower the fan into the cooling fan assembly until the release tab snaps into
place. See Figure 3-11.
3 Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 79.
Removing the Cooling Fan Assembly

1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect
the system from its electrical outlet.
2 Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 78.
3 Lift the blue release levers to release the cooling fan assembly from the
chassis. See Figure 3-12.
4 Grasp the blue release levers and lift the cooling fan assembly out of the
system. See Figure 3-12.
