6.1
Problems and their solutions
Problem

Marked drop in
pressure
Leak in the system.
Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.6, page 18).
Marked rise in pres-
sure
6.2821.120 inline filter
blocked.
Replace 6.2821.130 filter (see Chapter 5.6,
page 81).
MSM-HC – blocked.
■
Regenerate the MSM-HC (see Chapter
5.11.3.1, page 86).
Note: 6.2821.180 pump tubing connection
with filter must be used .
Guard column – blocked.
Replace guard column (see Chapter 3.21,
page 61).
Separation column –
blocked.
■
Regenerate separation column (see Chap-
ter 5.13.4, page 95).
■
Replace separation column (see "Connect-
ing and rinsing the separation column",
page 63).
Note: Samples should always be microfiltered
(see Chapter 5.7, page 83).
Injection valve – valve
blocked.
Have the valve cleaned (by Metrohm service
technicians).
Drift of the baseline
Thermal equilibrium not yet
attained.
Condition instrument with the column thermo-
stat (see Chapter 3.17, Page 49) switched on .
Leak in the system.
Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.6, page 18).
Eluent – Evaporation of the
organic solvent in the elu-
ent.
Check the eluent bottle attachment (see Figure
13, page 31).
Peak areas lower
than expected
Sample – Leak in the sam-
ple path.
Check the sample path.
Sample – Blockage in the
sample path.
Check the sample path.
